Plain-English Study Guide for the FCC Amateur Radio General Class License

W0IS.com

2015 Update: The study guide has been updated to reflect the new questions in effect as of July 1, 2015, and the current version of the book includes all of the new material.

Very few changes were made. If you are using an old copy of this study guide (or an old version of another study guide such as the ARRL General Class License Manual), you should be able to pass with little difficulty. In fact, there are only about 25 brand new questions, which are shown at the bottom of this page.

If you have your FCC Amateur (Ham) Radio Technician license, and you're ready to upgrade to the General class license, I have written a study guide to get you ready for the test.

Even if you have very little background in radio or electronics, you will be able to pass the test by using this guide. (This book assumes that you have already passed the test for the entry level Technician license. If you haven't, there is a separate "Plain English" guide for that exam.) All of the concepts are explained in the most basic terms, and each section of the book is followed by the actual questions you will see on the test. When you are finished with this book, you will be able to pass the test!

The book is available in paperback for only $14.95. To order directly from the publisher, simply follow this link. You can also order from Amazon.

This book is also available on Amazon as a Kindle book. You can order by clicking the link below:

If you don't have a Kindle, you can download a free Kindle viewer for your PC or other platform by following this link.

It is also available at smashwords.com in a variety of e-book formats (including PDF) at this link.

If you do not already have an Amateur Radio license, you should start out with the Technician class license. Information about my study guide for that license is available at this link. If you want, you can take both tests the same day, but you do need to start with the Technician test and pass that before receiving your license.

New Test Questions for General Class License Test

The test questions for the General exam changed on July 1, 2015, and the new version of my study guide will be available in a few days. Most changes were very minor, and you won't have any trouble if you studied an earlier version of my book (or any other study guide) for the earlier version of the test. There are only about 25 totally new questions, and you'll probably only get a handful of the new ones. Therefore, even if you get all of the new questions wrong, you'll still pass with flying colors. And most of the new questions can be figured out with the knowledge you already have.

But if you studied for the old version of the test, you'll wnt to review the new questions and get all of them right as well. Here are the new questions along with the correct answers:
